Golf is a great game

Tomorrow I hope to get my first game of the new year, weather permitting. Will I need flippers we’ll see, I hope not. I have some yellow balls to make them easier to find if I am a little wayward with my straight hitting.
The grandchildren visited today, and they were wonderfull, no misbehaving just two little angels, keeping granddad company while mummy & daddy took care of business.
I wonder if the rain that has been falling here in Somerset, has been falling as snow in Scotland, I will be visiting soon and it would be so nice to see some white stuff, in the highlands.

New Year

Firstly may I wish you all a very Happy New Year.

With the new year apon us, it is time to think about what you want in your garden.

Me, I am planting my parsley and show onions, parsley is slow to germinate so be patient, plant both in good seed compost and place in a heated propagator.

My 60th Birthday weekend was a great success, marred only by the events you can read about below.

Thank you to all my Friends who turned up to help me celebrate it, and, Yes it is a badge and I had to wear it all night

To all those that supported me “I thank you” it was much appreciated, to those that didn’t “well enough said”. I hope the Media Fireball that will inevitably follow, won’t be too embarrassing to the Town Council.

I still think that Cathy Bakewell had no business sticking her constituency nose into Town Group business, but I know her view on that, so, we must agree to differ.

The whole thing was very well orchestrated with me in Cornwall unable to conduct any kind of defence until I returned to duty, on Wednesday, by then most of the votes were in and it was too late. That’s what I call a FAIR and Democratic Process, and it demonstrates just how Yeovil Lib-Dem Constituency democracy works.

On the 28th of March, Yeovil’s loyalty card arrives. you can get it in many passes, the western gazette will be giving one free with every paper sold, the town house will have them as will the TIC, plus many other places.
Lots of business are running special offers alined to the card, so keep an eyes open for the press release to learn more.

The laurels have had a long overdue trim, pretty major trim mind you. The growth this year we be interesting. The daffodils and the crocus’s are in bloom and the spring show is starting to look good.

LGBCE’s final recommendations for the review of the electoral arrangements for Somerset County Council, and have spoken to the Commission about the impact on Yeovil Town.

In essence, the Commission found little support for their proposed two-member division for Brympton and Yeovil West and instead have decided to create single-member divisions for these two areas. However, in doing so, they felt that in the interests of continuous road access across the proposed single-member Brympton Division and to help improve electoral equality, they needed to create two further new parish wards in Yeovil Town – named Long Mead and White Mead which, for county council electoral purposes will now form part of the new Brympton Division.

As a direct consequence of the Commission’s final recommendations (para 159 refers) the number of parish wards in Yeovil Town has been increased to eleven as follows:

Central – 2
East – 4
Hollands – 1
Long Mead – 1
Milford – 4
New Town – 1 (renamed from the proposed Sherborne parish ward)
Park – 1
Preston – 2
South – 4
West – 3
White Mead – 1

Subject to ministerial approval, the new arrangeents will come into effect for the May 2013 county council elections.

Full details of their recommendations including the final report and supporting maps may be viewed by clicking on the following weblink:

Tuesday is going to be fun, we have our reconvened Council’s Annual Meeting. We will sort out our committee positions and chairmen/woman. Total confusion should be avoided as I have had 2 meetings pacifically to help the new councillors understand the process. Time will tell.
Whatever happens my backbench seat is guaranteed. As long as I hold the chair of Yeovil in Bloom I will be happy.
